Overview

Manhattan is 22.7 square miles and roughly 1.6 million residents, and its north-south transit spine does most of the work of connecting the borough to the East 80s. The Lexington Avenue line, carrying the 4, 5, and 6, runs the length of the East Side and stops at 86th Street, three blocks west of the office.

The practical division for patients is between the East Side, where travel is a single train, and the West Side and downtown, where travel involves either a crosstown leg or a transfer. Distance in miles is a poor predictor; a Lincoln Square address a mile away across Central Park can take longer to reach than a Murray Hill address three miles south.
